  About Treatments

A Bowen Therapy session usually takes from between 30 to 45 minutes. The first session will take a little longer however, as it will include a consultation to give me the details and history of your condition and any other health-related issues.

I will also ask you to complete a form outlining your past medical history, medications, operations etc. Depending on what your problems are, there may be an assessment of the range of movement in eg your neck, arms, shoulders etc. Following this, I will work out the most appropriate procedure for the session.

The treatment is usually carried out while you lie comfortably on a massage table, initially face down and then later, face up. If you have any problems with this position you can be made more comfortable with pillows or it may be more comfortable and appropriate for you to be treated seated in a chair, depending on your condition.

The most important thing is that you are comfortable and at ease.

The treatment can be given through light clothing if preferred, although it is more effective if the moves are made directly on the skin in which case a light blanket or towels are used, exposing only the area where the moves are being made.

In a treatment I use fingers and thumbs to make light rolling-type moves on precise points across soft tissue- muscles, ligaments and tendons etc. After two or three moves, I will move away for approximately two minutes, allowing your body to respond to and integrate the moves just performed and then I will continue with another set of moves followed by another rest period and so on until the treatment is completed.

Although the moves are light and gentle, they have a powerful effect and can provide help for a whole range of conditions.  You will find the treatment deeply relaxing; in fact many report that it is THE most relaxing therapy they have ever received. While Bowen Therapy is not a form of massage, it does provide a release for built-up stress in the muscles; hence the deep relaxation.
